02:23:40
Where are the recorded zoom's going so that we can refer back to the presentations when we need them :)
David Stokowski
02:23:53
@Brandi,
David Stokowski
02:24:16
I will make sure that the links are given to the district…they will distribute.
Tania Hutchins
02:24:27
I was looking at the “available apps” that can be run with Canvas… and I tried to see if I could integrate Zoom into Canvas. Can that happen?
David Stokowski
02:25:03
@Tania, The Zoom integration is only available if the district has licenses for Zoom. The “free” versions of Zoom are not available for the App integration.
Tania Hutchins
02:25:48
Our district DOES have a license for Zoom… do they need to work with Canvas to make that available on Canvas?
David Stokowski
02:26:16
@Tania,
David Stokowski
02:26:46
That is something that can happen with time, I don’t think that particular integration has been setup…yet.
Tania Hutchins
02:27:01
thanks
Kristy Warren
02:27:37
We will look into the Zoom integration Tania with our technical implementation.
Michelle Callahan
02:34:21
Would we have more courses to import from commons when we create them this year?
Lisa Kelly
02:34:23
Can we customize templates with our photos?
David Stokowski
02:37:03
@Lisa, sure! You would have to upload your picture as a file, and you would be able to place it in pages as you see fit.
David Stokowski
02:37:57
@Tania & @Lisa…I am Zoomer too. I do prefer it over the Conferences tool freely available in Canvas…
Mike Cadicamo
02:38:28
I have one computer. How do I minimize your screen so I can access my canvas?
David Stokowski
02:40:11
@Mike, if you are on the Zoom window…try hitting ESC to get out of full screen mode.
Lindsay Vert
02:43:26
I was wondering how to get out of the full screen too. Now I know.
David Stokowski
02:43:40
Zoom can be a little controlling ;)
Thomas Brown

Jena Hurst
02:46:19
If we happen to be lucky enough to have 2 sections of the same class, is there a way to duplicate a class that has been fully completed.
David Stokowski
02:47:09
@Jena…yup! There is a process called cross-listing. This allows you to have two sections of students housed in one Canvas course. So…you don’t have to curate two copies of the same content.
Jena Hurst
02:47:30
Yay! thanks you!
Lisa Kelly
02:49:00
to create sections of the same course, is cross-listing executed in Admin Module?
Aleece Bequette-Oravetz
02:50:28
How do I delete the template I first imported to use another one?
David Stokowski
02:50:35
@Lisa…
Michelle Callahan
02:50:37
Is it the same as adding sections under one class in settings
David Stokowski
02:50:49
Do you want to create extra sections from a roster?
Becky York
02:51:33
Can you copy and paste photo when trying to submit photos or put them on a page? I have only been successful putting any of those images in if I save them to my desktop. For example: in the growing with canvas class I want to post a screen shot of my class and if there is a way not to save them to my computer every time that would be handy.
David Stokowski
02:51:57
@Aleece…if you want to use another template, there are a couple of options…you could delete the individual elements from the course.
David Stokowski
02:52:35
Second…if you are OK with it, you could go to Settings, and then “Reset Course Content” which will remove all the content from your course and gives you a clean version of your sandbox.
Paul Hardig
02:54:52
When I imported to my sandbox, the image Jeff has on his screen did not replace mine.
David Stokowski
02:55:00
@Becky, the editor doesn’t support drag and drop from computer. You would need to use the Images panel on the left when editing, or the image icon in the editor window…I’ll get the guide on this feature for you...

Becky York
02:56:44
Thank you
David Stokowski
02:56:54
@Paul…sorry I’m late to the question (and the context)…is this the image that is on the dashboard tile?
Lindsay Vert
02:56:55
Is anyone else getting kicked off of zoom? I've been kicked off three times.
Paul Hardig
02:57:10
Yes
Aleece Bequette-Oravetz
02:57:17
Yes
David Stokowski
02:57:53
@Paul…the content is coming over, but the course settings (which govern the image on the course tile) are not part of the import.
Paul Hardig
02:58:06
It's on the tile but not there when I open the course.
Becky York
02:59:40
How can you get photos side by side like the links he is showing?
David Stokowski
02:59:53
That image that is on the course tile is ONLY on the tile. The file will exist in the “Files” area, but that is the only location the tile image displays...
David Stokowski
03:00:27
@Becky…I believe that it may be inside a table.
Becky York
03:00:54
thanks
Tania Hutchins
03:01:33
I would suggest that Canvas puts in a simple button for “go back” or “undo” rather than “command Z”… most of us teachers won’t remember that specific command name
Dana Ludington
03:02:09
When creating an assignment is there away to use a pre-created Google Docs worksheet that the students can fill out when making an assignment submission? I figured out how to embed an google doc in the rich content editor as a teacher, but when I went into student view I was unable to see it or type into it.
Marisa Lerch
03:02:39
How do we “cross list” multiple sections?
David Stokowski
03:02:42
@Tania…that’s fair. I will say this…there is a process to suggest improvements to the Canvas platform…I’ll get that in a second...
David Stokowski
03:02:55
@Dana…yes!
Lori Marquette
03:03:25
Which button is command?
David Stokowski
03:03:28
This is something called a Google Cloud Assignment in Canvas. I believe you will get specific training on this next Friday, but I will go get the official Canvas guide on that process...
Dana Ludington
03:03:45
Great, thank you!
David Stokowski
03:04:23
Thanks, Jeff! CTRL+Z!!!
David Stokowski
03:05:30
@Dana…here’s the guide on Google Cloud Assignments: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13063-how-do-i-create-a-cloud-assignment-with-a-google-drive-file
Michelle Callahan
03:06:35
is there a video or page that gives instructions for creating course buttons as I work on things, then catch the last part of creating or where you can find buttons. ;)
David Stokowski
03:06:48
@Tania…here is the idea space for Canvas…look to see what people are suggesting, vote for your favorites, and suggest your own: https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas
David Stokowski
03:07:13
@Marisa…let me get the guide for Cross-listing. Also, the district may have more guidance on that process as time progresses...
David Stokowski
03:07:41
@Marisa…here it is: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12983-4152718703
Marisa Lerch
03:07:53
Thanks!
David Stokowski
03:08:17
For all the PC users…COMMAND is a Mac feature…the CONTROL button in the PC equivalent. You would use CTRL+Z to undo…
David Stokowski
03:09:01
@Michelle, I am not sure about that, let me see if I can find something on making an image a button...
Kristy Warren
03:10:26
I’m keeping a running list of future training topics, I’ll add assessments to the list.
David Stokowski
03:11:09
@Michelle, let me preface something before I post the guide…you can create hyperlinks by highlighting content in Canvas. In this guide, they are showing highlighting text. If you highlight (select) the image, you can link in the same manner: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-26551-how-do-i-insert-links-to-course-content-into-the-rich-content-editor-using-the-content-selector-as-an-instructor
David Stokowski
03:11:58
I know it’s not directly an answer…but it works by analogy...
David Stokowski
03:12:45
Hey everyone! Let me know if I’ve missed any questions so far…
Tania Hutchins
03:13:37
Can this chat be saved as a Transcript and sent to us? (from Daryl)
David Stokowski
03:14:19
@Tania…I believe so. If it doesn’t come with the video copy…I’ll make sure to split it up (it’s a running chat for ALL of the sessions today).
Jennifer Kimball
03:17:07
Is there a traing for special education?
sstirling
03:17:25
HI, will we be able to easily pull weekly Newsela articles into our weekly modules?
David Stokowski
03:18:33
@Jennifer, there is nothing specific for SpEd…but Canvas is flexible enough to be used to help support your students in general population courses.
David Stokowski
03:19:17
We can brainstorm what SpEd looks like in the district, and find the best practices to aid you in your current support ethods.
David Stokowski
03:19:46
@sstirling…there is an Integration of Newsela with Canvas…does the district have a subscription?
sstirling
03:20:47
@ David, some schools do, not sure about whole District. We do at QHS.
Tania Hutchins
03:21:01
Can you create subheadings under module headings?
David Stokowski
03:21:27
We would have to see about the specifics, but I do know it integrates. We would likely need to contact Newsela about the specifics…
Denise Cadicamo
03:21:48
I have noticed that the header bars are different color is there a way to change the color.
David Stokowski
03:22:15
@Tania…the only way to accomplish what you are asking is by adding those Text Headers. You also have the ability to indent each element in the module to show a little more heirarchy...
David Stokowski
03:22:28
Or hierarchy… (if I could spell the first time).
Kristy Warren
03:22:48
Looks like we can integrate with Newsela but we’ll need to do some tech integration work
David Stokowski
03:22:52
@Denise…the header bar color isn’t a customizable option.
David Stokowski
03:23:21
Thanks Kristy…I don’t know the details of ALL of the Apps…we only have like 400...
sstirling
03:23:44
@kristy, what is the tech integration? Is that on the Tech dept end?
sstirling
03:24:34
IT end of things for Newsela?
Marisa Lerch
03:27:25
Kristy, will we be using Aeries gradebook next year or will we only be using Canvas grade book?
Kristy Warren
03:27:43
@Suzanne- yes, all that tech integration happens behind the scenes
Kristy Warren
03:28:20
@Marissa- I added grading to a future training topic, I think we need to learn more about it next week. Grading does integrate with Aeries.
Karen Hicks
03:29:08
Kristy, what about Google Classroom? Will we be using both Canvas and GC?
Lisa Kelly
03:30:07
Kristy, will there be specific training on discussion boards?
sstirling
03:30:21
@lindsey, I've been frozen and dropped off Zoom 5X during this session. I'm at QHS too.
ericaperdue
03:31:00
Kristy, will our students be automatically added to our courses and will they be added to the correct section/period?
Karen Hicks
03:31:03
How do students and parents enroll in our class? Is it via a code?
David Stokowski
03:31:29
@Karen…the students will be automatically rostered from Aeries. Parents will use codes to attach themselves to their students.
Becky York
03:33:00
That was handy! Can you share a link about how to share a whole class. I know I will want to do that but I don't think I will remember
ericaperdue
03:33:17
David, If I set up my course with period 1 and period 2 as sections, will that automatic roster happen by period as well so students are added to the correct period?
Amanda Osburn
03:33:40
I have the same question.
Kristy Warren
03:33:42
@Erica- yes, with the Aeries integration, courses, sections and students are automatically added
David Stokowski
03:34:10
@Erica…you should just build ONE version of your course…we can cross-list the sections in to the same course.
Kristy Warren
03:34:24
@Karen Canvas will replace Google Classroom
David Stokowski
03:34:29
You only have to curate one…assignment dates can be varied per section/period.
Kristy Warren
03:37:14
@Lisa Discussions are covered in the Grow With Canvas course under Module 3.2, if you have further questions we can add it as a future training topic
Nicole Yoacham
03:45:37
How do we print assignments for those without internet?
David Stokowski
03:46:58
Link to default notifications: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1e1H8rvBBTsXrKezKre9_MDoNQHX2qekyCppMIon35TU/edit?usp=sharing
Kristy Warren
03:47:21
@Nicole If we are in a hybrid system, we are looking at options for open access time for students without internet to come in on their non “teacher” day, this would eliminate or reduce the need for paper packet options.
Nicole Yoacham
03:47:56
Thank you.
sstirling
03:47:59
Many thanks!!!
Kristy Warren
03:48:10
Thanks David!
Kristy Warren
03:48:16
Thanks Jeff!
David Stokowski
03:49:10
@Nicole…there is a way to do this! Students can go to Modules while they have Internet and create the download: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10683-4212716124
Nicole Yoacham
03:49:26
Okay, thanks.
Carol Bernard
03:49:46
Thank you.
Michelle Callahan
03:49:46
thank you both!
Kristy Warren
03:50:31
Thanks everyone!
Erin Cooper
03:50:32
Thank you
Susan Frediani
03:50:34
Thank you! Great info!
