Hacienda La Puente Unified School District - July 15 am - Shared screen with speaker view
If there is anyone who cannot log into yourCanvas account, or you don't have one, please put your email address in the chat. Thank you
I suggest having another laptop/desk top open (side by side) , easier to view presenter screen on one so you can work on the other one.
This is an elementary training right? We don’t have periods please show for primary
He’s explaining both…:-)
screen pops up prompts us to AUTHORIZE access to account, we click on it ?
is there a way to erase it after you download this?
Dr. Cunningham, Do students still need to log into Classlink to get to Canvas? Do the need to log into Google to use and work on any Google Docs posted as their assignments? We will continue to use Zoom or are we using the virtual meeting platform that Canvas offers?
I'm continuing to receive an error message when opening up the templates in the commons. Is anyone else having this issue?
yes me too
I have not been able to open anything in the commons. It gives the same 404 error message no matter what I click.
Canvas suggests using Chrome or Firefox. That might help
Will he be giving examples with elementary templates, not secondary?
Thank you for the suggestion! I am using Chrome and also tried on Firefox but haven’t had any success.
same here using chrome
I hear you Kristy...I wish it was more primary oriented
I'm also using Chrome and receiving error...
I'm in Chrome.
How do we use this with First Graders??
When I click on Commons, I see templates. If you see them, the one from Jana Capps is a free template. The ones from Jay Liang were created from NCS to try. And the ones from Harpreet are ones she has created.
thank you Dr. Cunningham!
I’m confused a bit…is this replacing Class Links?
Is there a way to remove a template?
my understanding is CLASS LINK is a portal with links to different sources/sites/apps , CANVAS is a app that is listed within CLASSLINK
I don’t understand…. What is Sandbox?
Will we still be using blackboard?
I'm concerned about parents/students navigating this, because I a bit confused myself
Sandbox is an empty CANVAS course
Sandbox is like a practice
can I eventually move the contents from sandbox to the real course
we would probably need to train / teach the kids how to use CANVAS also as a student
Is there a video or tutorial for students/parents?
Can you please use an elementary example
CANVAS is already APP ICON in HLP CLASSLINK now
I hope there is a video tutorial to support our families. We will probably need to provide extra support through Zoom during the first few weeks.
Yes I was wondering about a parent/student training
and Spanish speaking families...translation?
totally agree... parents will definitely need help navigating canvas. it’s too hard for some teachers to help parents with this...
Type those questions in the google document so we can get those answers hopefully
There are lots of resources on YouTube to find tutorials on many of the tasks our trainer is talking about. There are also Canvas Facebook groups that are very informative.
Let me try to clarify. When they log on to Class Link,, with a QR code, or username/password, they will be logged on to Canvas with this SSO (Single Sign On). Tech TOSAs have created videos on this, that we will push out. Both Google and O365 are integrated into Canvas already for us. Zoom is on the Board Agenda for approval on 7/23. You can use Microsoft Teams (or Zoom once approved) with students. The platform in Canvas is limited to 10 students at a time, so it is ok with small groups. Hope that info helps.
There is also A LOT of useful info in Canvas Guides
Thank you Dr. Cunningham
Are we phasing out Google Classroom with CANVAS? Or do we have the option to use either one?
What if small groups are larger than 10?
So do we ignore Sandbox and create another course?
You can use Google or O365
If small groups are larger, use Teams (or Zoom once approved on 7/23)
Can we see examples of primary grade assignment uploads?
Yes, what does a first grade/kinder assignment look like??
I agree with Carrie. I'm feeling like this is above my grade level.
I am not seeing how this will work in first grade at all.
Does Canvas have a "draw" feature for primary students?
Maybe there can be future trainings for specific needs like k-1 or 2-3 or sped.
Be sure to include your questions and concerns in the google doc! :)
Will they be able to edit the worksheet right on the computer either by inserting text boxes or “drawing” on the screen?
Kristy I wrote that question on the google doc
Maybe I missed it at the beginning, but how does this work with multi-level classrooms?
no periods in elementary
YES! No periods
confusing needs to be focused on one class
Yes. I feel like this is geared toward middle school. Not elementary
Dina De La O-Johnson
Can you include audio for the questions?
Hi all. Periods can also possibly be subjects. I also just spoke to Dr. C. and please make sure that all questions are placed in the google doc. which will be shared with C&I and pushed out to everyone. Thanks.
Are all of these quizzes creatable on the quiz function?
got my answer
Audio is definitely important for lower grades.
The hot spot sounds good, but also very time consuming to create.
where will this video be posted?
Where will this video be posted?
Yes. It will be posted under staff on the district website. Not sure when.
Also, there are very useful videos under the HELP button on canvas. I've also chatted with the online help and they were very helpful with assisting with what videos to watch for my specific questions.

how do we send the time sheet signed document?
so do we print, sign, upload, and email to whom
The original link with the Zoom meeting information has a spot for you to upload the timesheet
Fill out timesheet, and upload in the PD link in your email
you can take a picture of it and upload it, that works as well if you can't scan it.
