47:33
we will create an FAQ after this session to address your questions. let Johnna go through our agenda

48:41
Many of you are already using the New Gradebook.

48:54
FYI, several of your institutions are already using the New Gradebook.

50:13
mINE IS forced on, too

50:19
Does the new gradebook kick in even after you have cloned your old Canvas shell?

50:29
Yes, Robert that may the case.

50:33
Many of your LMS admins have New Gradebook forced on because of the upcoming change over

50:50
Yes, Karan it will be the default for all courses starting in January.

51:00
If there is a different behavior, it would have been nice to get advanced notice.

51:29
Of course, I may not be using the features to make a difference. Good question for my EdTech team (they're GREAT, by the way!)

51:37
Robert, we just found out recently. That’s why we wanted to offer this training

52:05
Robert, if you already have it turned on, you will not see a change.

52:31
If you are using the old gradebook, there is currently an announcement/warning notifying you of the permeant change to the new gradebook when you are in your course gradebook.

53:28
How are grades predicted in the middle of the semester using weighted grading. if a group has not been submitted, does it count as zeros?

54:03
If there are no grades, the total is averaged without that category

54:46
Pengfei, they are not counted as zeros until you assign them a grade or use a Grading policy.

55:43
got it, thank you!

56:03
Thanks Page and Terri. Pengfei, basically the gradebook is a running total.

56:05
so until the end of the semester, the grade is not weighted.

56:20
https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10059-415267002

56:20
If we use default grades of 0 for all assignments, will that include the missing assignments in the grade calculation? That gives a more accurate overall grade for the semester as opposed to the current grade in progress.

56:36
This guide is a helpful resource regarding weighted grades.

57:20
Pengfei, if the final is it’s own category or you have much outstanding til the end, you are correct

57:48
Yes, Robert is correct.

58:30
Johnna will be going over policies that can also assist with this.

58:42
Thanks, Casey

59:52
If I have multiple sections of the same course in Canvas, how can I manage them? Can I create one Canvas course instead of multiple?

01:00:23
Yes, your admin can collapse sections of the same course so you work in one shell only

01:00:41
Ok, thanks.

01:00:57
That's great to know, Terri!

01:01:37
Yes, Janelle, you just need to have your admin do it. Best before the semester starts, so send a request if you want that done.

01:01:44
What is impact if you change weights and/or questions on a quiz after some students have already completed it?

01:01:47
In the above question, can I arrange students in gradebook based on class sections and not in alphabetic order?

01:01:53
Will do!

01:02:29
Has the new gradebook by chance already kicked in for some instructors or institutions or is it redesign that doesn't roll out till January?

01:02:35
Martray, we aren’t really covering quizzes today. But you cannot change a quiz composition after some students have completed, I believe

01:03:04
Brpaneh you can go to individual view and look at students by section there

01:03:15
If we manage multiple sections in one course, can we make adjustments to schedules of assignments etc independently by section?

01:03:21
Karan what institution are you affiliated with?

01:03:22
Karan, many colleges have had new grade book on.

01:03:32
Understand that. What if you change weights of HWK, Quizzes, etc. in grade book?

01:03:33
Can students also filter grade book

01:03:36
Mortuary, you can change the weight, but not the total point possible. The system is not forgive on the latter part.

01:03:41
Robert, yes, you can change due dates and even assignments by section

01:03:46
Robert, yes you can assign assignments by section

01:04:12
Martray, you can change weights at any point.

01:04:32
Here is a guide Robert on how to do this: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10434-4152669141

01:04:45
So, if you mark it drop, will it not calculate the grade?

01:05:02
Yes, Lisa that is correct.

01:05:15
Thank you

01:05:52
Drop vs OMIT?

01:06:23
Excused is OMIT

01:06:31
Casey: That is perfect! Do we get to select manage multiple sections in Canvas or is that something we have to do with the administrator?

01:06:39
How doe we reset assignments?

01:06:52
You will need to work with your administrator

01:06:59
G, Wright. Are you talking about removing submissions?

01:07:20
Yes

01:07:36
In Canvas, students can submit assignments as many times up until the due date. However, quizzes are different.

01:07:45
I don't have the advanced button

01:08:02
How do you reset a quiz/test?

01:08:04
No one has the advanced button in VCCS

01:08:10
Is there an option for an automatic comment as well for late submissions.

01:08:13
Pengfei, are you in Google Chrome?

01:08:22
yes, google chrome

01:08:47
I have been told that there is no way to reset a quiz/est

01:08:48
G. Wright you can moderate to give another submission attempt.

01:08:48
Sorry...meant to say for missing submissions

01:09:09
Janelle, you will see some options.

01:09:18
G. Wright. see this document https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10038-4152101240

01:09:18
Can give more attempts but cannot clear old ones

01:09:45
Great! Thanks, Terri!

01:10:02
Thanks

01:10:24
Moderate Quiz information can be found here. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12711-4152276730

01:10:50
G Wright Moderate quiz is also an option for quizzes.

01:10:57
Diane, you can always take highest score of multiple quiz attempts

01:11:27
Got it...but I want to totally remove previous submission when they want to put in a second one.

01:13:36
Diane, unfortunately that is not a feature that is available.

01:13:43
Diane. See this document https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-10152-415241475

01:14:17
Diane, at least to remove an assignment submission

01:14:56
The overide feature is available, you have to turn it on in settings. I am currently using it. However I would like a means to add a comment in the override to explain why. Have not found a way to do it.

01:15:01
Thanks

01:15:50
Bill. See if this is what you are wanting. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12746-415255023

01:16:58
best way to leverage Student Test in grade book?

01:17:06
I would like to combine two columns (e.g., lab photo 1+ lab quiz 1 = lab 1 total. How can I do this?

01:17:30
Martray, I am not sure what you are asking.

01:17:38
I can add comments in individual assignments/test but cannot in the final grade column or override column. I will loook at this further after the webinar.

01:17:42
@Evansa you might need to create a new assignment group in order to calculate that

01:18:07
@bill, unfortunately this is not a feature that is available. I’ll share this idea with our product team.

01:18:20
Last row in Grade Book is student TEST. How do we use it?

01:18:44
Thanks! Just to clarify.. I want to be able to do this for each lab.

01:18:44
@Evansa, agreed with Gannon, this is how you can best do this.

01:19:28
Martray, That is a "Test Student" so that when you enter the course in student view you can complete your own quizzes as a student.

01:19:33
The Test Student is a way to see the course how the students would see it.

01:19:36
can I get a mean grade, highest, and lowest grades in a class section? and the statistics of how many As, Bs, Cs..?

01:19:45
@martray, this is the student/user in the course when the teacher uses the

01:19:47
Thanks, all.

01:19:51
Can we Delete a score on a specific quiz or Assignment?

01:19:57
the student view in the course settings.

01:20:15
@martray, this is the student/user in the course when the teacher uses the student view in the course settings.

01:20:16
Blackboard had an option to add a text field where we could have a column in which we could add comments or remarks. This would be nice to have.

01:20:50
There is a notes column, Bill. It’s only for you, not for students, however

01:20:55
If I set default scores to 0 for external content, when that site (Cengage MindTap) synchs, will it override the 0?

01:20:55
@bill Do you want that note to be visible to the student? or just to yourself/admins

01:20:56
how does excused affect the weighted assignments?

01:21:34
If I can makew the note box available to students that would serve the same purpose. How do I do it?

01:21:55
@abuzayda, Johnna just answered that question.

01:21:55
Can we still delete and/or omit selected grades?

01:21:57
Bill, the note column is for instructors only at this time

01:22:18
Martray, you can excuse selected grades

01:22:34
thats is what I read in the video's. Hopefully they can make the note avail to students.

01:22:48
@bill, I’ll share this idea with our product team.

01:28:15
Is there a way to drop the lowest score in a given category?

01:28:45
@evansa..yes under Assignments.

01:29:02
Is there a special indicator if I graded a submission and a student submits a second attempt?

01:29:03
Evansa, Here you go. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-9880-4152232976

01:29:28
Thanks!

01:29:55
Robert, you will just see the same page icon in the gradebook

01:30:12
I dropped lowest 2 grades in a class. One student who had a LOW grade went back & resubmitted to GET 100%. But it still dropped that grade?

01:30:19
Will there be a dot or check by the name in the drop down?

01:30:58
She just answered, Robert

01:31:26
So if there is a second submission, I'll get a dot back to indicate a new submission to be graded.

01:31:34
Note. If you use a rubric and only grade part of the rubric, it will still be marked as graded.

01:31:40
Martray, it dropped another grade, or dropped the lowest two grades still?

01:31:51
Robert, yes

01:31:59
Thanks, Terri!

01:32:15
In my syllabus I have a requirement that students must have a passing lab average and a passing test average to pass the class. In a spreadsheet I created a function to have the final grade display an “F” is either the labs or test have a failing average regardless of the final class average, which could be a passing grade if either one of the labs or tests items is high enough to overcome the failing item. The override feature allows me to now override the letter grade but no way to comment on why the override.

01:32:22
Note: If you allow more than one attempt, if you grade the latest attempt, then Canvas will mark as graded and not inform you that previous attempts need graded.

01:32:29
@robert here is a helpful guide: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13088-415255024

01:32:42
Video & audio feedback is GREAT!

01:33:01
sTUDENT HAD 40% ON QUIZ, WHICH WAS DROPPED. hE WENT BACK & RETOOK TO IMPROVE TO 100% ON same quiz. His 100% grade was still dropped

01:33:12
Joressia, you are correct. If the latest submission is graded, you will not be notified about earlier submissions

01:34:02
Martray, I’m assuming the rule had already been set? You might want to show your LMS admin if that’s not the behavior you want in the gradebook

01:34:17
OK

01:34:24
Terri: Is there a way to see the previously submitted assignment?

01:34:26
Martey, you may want to reach out to Canvas support as well,

01:34:32
Here is a Canvas Guide for adding annotations. https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-15081-4152719763

01:34:45
Robert, yes. In speed-reader, there is a drop down menu to see each submission

01:34:57
Robert: In Speedgrader there is a dropdown. See the guide I sent you.

01:34:59
Speed grader

01:35:06
Perfect - thanks, Terri - I've saved that link

01:35:14
oops - Casey!

01:35:15
I give all my exam in resondus. Is there a way to grade, for example, essay #1 of all students the grade essay 2 of all students in speed grader?

01:36:39
There is not a way to currently grade a single question for all students at one time.

01:37:50
How do I leave feedback comments for student submissions in SpeedGrader? https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12746-415255023

01:38:10
Speedgrader is currently being researched and reviewed by product, this is one of the enhancements that is being considered @dbeiszczad and @page

01:38:29
Using Respondus what is the best way to allow students to view there graded tested in a SECURE protected way?

01:38:54
It would be great to have the annotation tool on quizzes with file upload questions.

01:39:31
@joresssia, I’ll share this feedback with product.

01:39:32
Toggling between submissions allows you to have students submit rough drafts and final drafts to the same place, and you can easily compare changes

01:39:32
I have to leave to give a final exam at 1:30pm. I want to say this was a great presentation and having access to the chats was helpful but could not keep up with both so I will save them and read them later. Thanks everyone for your questions and feedback. Bill McNamara TCC Virginia Beach

01:40:07
Is there a easy way to get to speed grader from New quizzes?

01:40:36
The Canvas APP works really well on Ipads. Especially the annotation tools.

01:40:38
Thank you for a great presentation

01:40:40
Angela, you can click on the assignment on your Dashboard to go directly to speedgrader

01:40:42
download teacher app. and you cans use speed grader from your iPad and phone

01:40:46
Thanks for a great presentation.

01:40:53
GREAT!!!

01:40:55
Canvas Mobile app - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WpH820fu_6FbdEYLCDMxDkdDT1iYPzbm3Xme57p5SnY/edit?usp=sharing

01:41:05
Thanks for an informative session! And to the team that was responding to questions along the way.

01:41:15
rubrics is the place to give students comments

01:41:19
Thanks!

01:41:27
Thank you! This was very helpful!

01:41:29
On various grades for students, what does the colored flags do? What do they represent?

01:41:29
I would like a way to offer late grades per assignment rather than just a blanket policy

01:41:56
I would like to arrange columns in the gradebook by chapter. How?

01:42:01
On various grades for students, what does the colored flags do? What do they represent? They appear in the grading column.

01:42:03
Tracey, you might want to watch the recording, Johnna explained that

01:42:14
Or are you talking about Turnitin?

01:42:16
Will do... thanks...
